WEST PALM BEACH, FL –– As the Sailfish lacrosse team prepares for another fierce run to the SELC and MCLA championships, the program has announced three new captains for the 2009 season. Juniors Andrew Lockhart (Winter Park, FL/Winter Park), Jayson Schmidt (Brighton, MI/Howell) and Fritz Van der Grift (Palm Beach, FL/Deerfield Academy/Elizabethtown College) will join senior captain Jay Shewan (Indianapolis, IN/Hertiage Christian) as the four captains for this season.
Both Lockhart and Schmidt are entering their third seasons in the PBA lacrosse program. Last year, both tied for third on the team in scoring, while Lockhart led PBA in assists. Both players were integral members of the the offense in 2008 and were integral members of the man-up unit, too.
Van der Grift begins his second season at PBA, following a freshman-year transfer from Elizabethtown College in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania. A graduate of Deerfield Academy in Deerfield, Massachusetts, Van der Grift brings playmaking abilities and leadership to the Sailfish on a daily basis.
Leaving the Sailfish are senior captains Joe Laundrie (Sayville, NY) and Stephen Cox (Orlando, FL). Last year's other captain, Lance Villio (Charlottesville, VA/The Covenant School) has chosen to use a final year of eligibility (his decision was after the captain's voting).
