WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. –– In a playoff-like atmosphere, the Palm Beach Atlantic University lacrosse team rose to the occasion and decisively defeated the University of North Florida, 18-5. In total, eight players found the stat sheet and all Sailfish saw playing time over the course of the blowout win.

After North Florida opened the scoring early in the first quarter, PBA freshman Chris Bode (Cincinnati, OH/Indian River) would finally crack the stellar goaltending of UNF's Michael Gingold, tying the score at 1-1. The game would continue with no scoring until 14:36 of Quarter #2, when another Bode goal began the onslaught.

In the second quarter, PBA set a school record by outscoring North Florida 11-0 over the 15-minute span. Leading the way was junior attackman Andrew Lockhart (Winter Park, Fla./Winter Park), who scored five goals and added two assists in the quarter. The Sailfish were helped by a three minute non-releaseable stick penalty (UNF's Kyle Nelson) and capitalized with three goals during the EMO.

The goals kept coming–– Jordan Jones (North Myrtle Beach, SC/The Academy for the Arts) added his first of five goals and attackman Jayson Schmidt (Brighton, Mich./Howell) scored his third point of the day, unassisted. Chris Bode would score again and freshman Joel Horras (Oak Park, IL/Oak Park & River Forest) provided a goal late in the half.

Another freshman, Jesse Vanatta (Springfield, VA/West Springfield) resumed the scoring in the third quarter (at this point, it was 13-1 PBA). Two quick Osprey goals cut the lead for a short while, but the continuous scoring proved too much for UNF. Throughout much of the second half, the Sailfish reserves saw valuable playing time––even junior goalie Drew Brewton (Elkhart, IN/Timber Creek FL) got actionin the fourth quarter.

Overall, PBA dominated all statistical categories, including time of possession and faceoff wins.

Palm Beach Atlantic improves to 7-3 on the year and 3-1 in conference play, while UNF falls to 3-6 (2-3). The Sailfish will host Coastal Carolina University for the rights to an SELC playoff berth on Friday, April 17th (gametime, 4PM at Cardinal Newman HS).
